BBA Mystique
Another on our list recently of old friends returning to us after a holiday in a barrel! Behold now the Mystique! Long-term regulars of our Tasting Room might just remember the ever-so-brief but delicious period when this mead’s predecessor graced our menu! A golden and delicious traditional mead made from a fantastic and uncommon honey to boot! Let’s see how its extensive tenure in a barrel went!
The first impression from the nose betrays a decadent but welcomed sweetness. Like the nectar honey meads of old, this is bound to be a delicious treat! Undertones of that barrel persist, but it has blended into a soft honey aroma wonderfully! It’s the taste I’m really wanting to dissect, however!
Oh my… such a fantastic and sweet expression of honey. Less floral than a typical wildflower; on the first sip, it’s a saturating wave of sweet-soft fruity-earthy-honey with a kiss from that barrel. Further sips allow me to explore the layers. Much of the profile is this lovely honey but that spirited barrel note is a heavy foundation. Full-bodied honey-whiskey under this blanket of downright playful sweetness. This mead grants me an intellectual appreciation in regard to uncovering the deeper bourbon notes but also is captivated by this immensely delicious honey identity. An easy sip, that is for sure.
