Barreled Treasure:

Mead Details

16%abv

We took Berried Treasure, made with red currants, red raspberries, blueberries, and apples, and with local wildflower honey from Flatrock Michigan.  Then we aged in a Toledo Spirits, East Side Gin barrel for 8 months.

The yeast used for this mead was DV10.

Tasting notes from Karl

It’s time to welcome back our tart red currant friend, this time with a vengeance! For fans of our barrel-aged series, you’re in for a treat with this one. As this is our first Gin Barrel aged mead! Your first sip will roll over your tongue with gentle, but nearly zesty, currant tartness. Finishing up each taste experience, you’ll notice an uncanny juniper/gin flavor with an unmistakable barrel tannin edge. This one somehow manages to be smooth and sharp, with enough of the Berried Treasures charm while still offering new notes that have personally impressed me. My final thoughts on this one are about just how interesting the notes from the barrel-aged gin come through under it all. Smokey isn’t quite right and yet the hint from the gin does sneak in a remarkable pseudo heat to what was a silky smooth mead.
