This mead was made using Hawaiian Tangerine Blossom honey. The yeast we used was QA23. This mead was about 10 months old before bottling.

Karl’s tasting notes

Finally a mead in the Hawaiian series of Traditionals that I absolutely understand! Tangerines, a lovely citrus with an especially sweet flavor that is begging to be added to mead. We’re no stranger here at Maniacal with playing with these fruits, but this is our first time using them from their honey on its own!

The nose is a deeeeep sweet citrus caramel. Like melting sugar. Wooden sweetness with a drizzle of thick, sweet caramel is the primary note of the nose. Deeper notes of subtle sweet citrus lick at the profile as I inhale this intoxicating nose. Once again, not what I expected. It’s amusing, my brain wants me to smell a near candy corn sweetness in there. Wild. As I delve beyond it, I get a sweet flower honey note as well. I have high hopes for the taste!

Nectar. Gorgeous, unmistakable nectar. This is an instant A from me. A profile of honey caramel with those same sexy notes of melting candy sugar, with a citrus expression at the end. It’s joyful velvet with a lacquer of deep, sweet richness of near-malt caramel honey. The sweetness blends with a refreshing note of sweet citrus with zero acidity on the profile. This is a Traditional of the ages. Delightful.
