So here we are with Batch 2 Of Sun Kissed.

Pretty simple traditional mead using Mexican Orange Blossom honey.

This mead was approximately 13 months old before bottling.

The yeast we used was D47.

Sun Kissed Batch 2

Joyous day it is to behold the Sunkissed once more! A simple yet elegant traditional mead, boasting an exquisite Orange Blossom Honey base! This mead was a fan-favorite, literally adored all across the country; by visitors and locals alike. Delightful tastes are in (my) our future, let’s begin!

I don’t normally talk about the appearance in my nose descriptions but I have to comment. My sample here is a gorgeous clear golden; idyllic and appetizing even before I go in for a tasting! On that note, my first impression of the nose is, shockingly, honey forward. Jokes aside, I can pick up several layers to this Traditional right away! Sweet honey, floral delicate profiles and even a touch of the yeast deep down there. Also! It’s identical in nose to its first batch! High hopes! As I dive deeper this Sunkissed has a very deep “arid” floral note. Not the lush flower pollen notes that we might have up here in Michigan, instead a slight hit of the citrus flowers that explode as you open up the bouquet. Clever word play aside, it’s time to taste.

Gorgeous. Delicate yet robust. A profile that builds from light circus adjacent florals into a growing wave of substantial honey, followed by an after sip mouth profile of honey and orange sweetness. Each sip is a symphony of honey but with a deeper note that is again somewhat orange flower as well as a little earthy. For something so simple, its remarkably tasty

Mead Details 

This was a fun project for me. As this was my first experience using Kveik yeast. 

This was a 50gal batch using Mexican Orange Blossom honey.  

This mead was started in February. Trying to bottle in the Fall of 2024.

Tasting notes from Karl 

New to our roster is another traditional mead! Capital! The Sun Kissed makes use of one of our new -and more exotic- honeys: orange blossom, all the way from Mexico. This honey has appeared in other meads produced around the same time as this one, many already have therefore had the pleasure of enjoying this southern citrus honey!

Just smelling the Sun Kissed and it’s that perfect, simple, sweet pleasure of pure honey made unto mead. The nose demonstrates the delightfully bright and citrusy notes from the orange blossom flowers that spawned the honey. Each intake gives off that lovely light-orange sweetness and the expected intensity of delicious honey. Perfect.

One sip in and its just a lush splash of light honey with undertones of orange nectar. The texture is akin to warm honey with a bite of that welcomed citrus indeed. Each sweet sip is a loving wave of silky smooth honey, floral nectar tones, semi-citrus and interestingly, a bite of succulent plant. Unlike more delicate orange blossom honey notes in more northern varieties, the Sun Kissed’s profile does have the taste of a warmer climate; for those willing to search for it. All in all another unique traditional mead that captures the essence of what mazing is all about.
